Film and Video
The Film & Video Pathway offers students the opportunity to learn skills and gain experience within the video production workflow, from planning to publishing. Major skills include video editing, video & sound recording, lighting techniques, and writing for the screen. Students will gain experience through a wide variety of hands-on production projects, including short films and the weekly school news program.
Learning Outcomes
- Acquire entry-level professional skills in the use of basic concepts, tools, techniques, and procedures to produce works of film from concept to finished product. Including: the ability to demonstrate an effective working process, and an understanding of and an ability to work within a film crew.
- Apply the art, aesthetics, and technique of visual storytelling. Including: directing, cinematography, lighting, editing, and sound design.
- Understand the basic aesthetic and narrative principles of film, and basic cinematic historical, theoretical, and critical models.
- Develop the skill set to find gainful employment in the film and/or video industry.
Possibilities After Graduation
Classes in the pathway include: Video Production 1 & 2, Filmmaking (up to 6 semesters), Video News (up to 6 semesters), & Screenwriting 1, 2, and 3.
Career possibilities include: Editor (Video and Television), Camera Operator (Video and Television), Video Technician, Audio Technician, Videographer, Director (Video and Television), Producer (Video and Television), Writer.
Annual Salary Range: $35,000 - $85,000+
