Statement from SPS regarding recent social media post
Springfield Public Schools

We know this is a challenging time in our country, and that national and local conversations can stir strong emotions. Recently, a social media post by one of our employees has raised concerns in our community. While individuals have rights to personal expression, the views shared in that post do not represent the values of Springfield Public Schools, Thurston High School, or any of our schools.

All SPS staff are held to high professional standards, both in and out of school. At the same time, it is important to be clear: personnel matters are private. Out of respect for the rights of our employees, the District does not share individual personnel information. We’ve heard frustration in our many discussions with students, parents, and community members, but we will continue to uphold that practice.

We encourage respectful conversations within our schools and in the broader community. Dialogue, even when difficult, helps young people and adults alike process their feelings and better understand one another.

Above all, the safety and well-being of our students and staff is our priority. Families can remain confident that SPS schools are places of learning, connection, and growth. We remain committed to supporting every student, every day
